As we seek to create a world where everyone is welcome, APH is introducing the Monarch Student Pilot Project (MSPP), granting select students across the U.S. and its territories access to the Monarch. This initiative will enable us to observe the educational impacts on student outcomes, helping us enhance the Monarch’s potential to empower students who are blind or low vision to lead their own education journeys. 

In September 2024 APH launched the Monarch, a multi-line braille and graphics tablet, initiating a long-sought revolution in electronic braille technology. Over five years, APH will assess the impact of this innovative braille/graphics technology in significantly enhancing access to achieving and maintaining competitive integrated employment (CIE) for individuals who are blind, low vision or DeafBlind.

Whether you are transitioning from school or training, or seeking new employment opportunities, this program will provide the training, networking opportunities, and resources to integrate the Monarch into your professional tasks and environment. While all applicant types will be considered and may be selected at any time between spring 2025 and summer 2026, most selections will follow this schedule:

Phase 1 Priority Deadline: March 3, 2025 (Most selections in mid-April 2025)

• Phase 1 Application is Closed
• Professionals in the Field supporting CIE-seekers
• Professionals who are blind, low vision, or DeafBlind

Phase 2 Priority Deadline: March 2, 2026 (Most selections in April and Summer 2026)

• Phase 2 Application will be available in early 2026!
• CIE-Seeking Individuals

• Wing It – APH is developing a groundbreaking new app that empowers users to create tactile graphics on the fly. Design tactile images in real time on your iPad and seamlessly transfer them to the Monarch. Coming in 2025!
• Leaders in the assistive technology industry are currently developing terminal mode and screen reader capabilities for multi-line braille displays.
